A row has erupted over the condition of at least 20 mature trees at Kille Gaothan in CBD Belapur, with environmental activists alleging that the trees are being deliberately poisoned. However, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has said its preliminary inspection found no evidence of chemicals being used to kill them.
Activists from NatConnect Foundation and Parsik Greens claimed holes and damaged portions were visible on the trees and alleged that a chemical substance had been injected into them. They also pointed to a sticky liquid oozing from cracks in the trunks and claimed to have detected a foul odour.
