With Morbe dam storage down to 12.73 per cent, the NMMC has announced strict water-saving measures, including a ban on potable water for car washes, suspension of pool water supply, a 20 per cent cut for bulk users and fines of up to Rs 1 lakh for violation

With the monsoon delayed and water levels at the vital Morbe dam plummeting to a critical 12.73 per cent, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, on Tuesday, rolled out a zero-tolerance blueprint designed to protect the satellite city’s fast-depleting reserves.
Car washing centres can no longer use potable municipal water, and the NMMC has ordered an immediate shutdown of the water supply to swimming pools. A 20 per cent water cut has been slapped on high-consumption institutions. Dr Shinde announced that civic teams will closely monitor housing societies to check wastage caused by overflowing water tankers and overhead storage tanks.
