NAVI Mumbai is set for a major change in its municipal polls as the 2025–26 elections will be held under a multi-member panel system for the first time. To familiarise voters with the new format, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has launched a city-wide awareness campaign under Chief Election Officer Dr Kailas Shinde.

Under the revised system, voters in wards 1 to 27 will elect four representatives each (A, B, C, D), while ward 28 will have three (A, B, C). To avoid confusion at polling booths, NMMC is distributing pamphlets, putting up over 300 hoardings and digital banners, and running targeted campaigns on NMMT buses and shelters. Print notices in newspapers complement the effort.

Digital outreach includes explainer videos in Marathi, Hindi, and English on Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube, also widely shared via WhatsApp. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and community volunteers are engaging citizens through local group interactions to clarify doubts.

Navi Mumbai civic polls: Election department issues advisory against misinformation

Meanwhile, the election department has issued a strict advisory against misinformation, following reports of false claims that votes would be invalid unless all panel votes were cast for candidates from the same party. Officials clarified that voters are free to select candidates of their choice for each seat, regardless of party affiliation.

The civic body has also reminded political parties and candidates that prior certification is mandatory for all election-related advertisements. Uncertified ads will not be allowed.

With these measures, the NMMC aims to ensure a transparent, informed, and confusion-free voting process, urging citizens to rely only on official communication channels for accurate information.
