The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified preventive measures to tackle rising air pollution across the city. Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde has directed all departmental heads to carry out stronger cleanliness drives and strict pollution-control actions in their respective zones.

Deep-cleaning operations are being conducted alongside routine sanitation work. Soil and dust on major roads are being removed, and the stretches are washed with treated water. Water bowsers are also sprinkling treated water to reduce suspended dust particles.

Ward-level squads are monitoring construction sites, quarries, and ready-mix concrete plants to ensure they are not contributing to pollution. Violators are being fined, and repeated non-compliance is leading to temporary closures.

To maintain air quality, NMMC has issued public guidelines listing Do’s and Don’ts for citizens and institutions. The civic body has appealed to residents to follow these measures and support efforts to safeguard environmental health.

Do’s
>> Segregate waste and promote recycling
>> Switch to LPG, CNG, or electric vehicles
>> Use public transport such as buses, the Metro, or shared vehicles
>> Maintain vehicles regularly to reduce emissions

Don’t
>> Stop using coal-based fuel in bakeries, hotels, and commercial units
>> Construction sites must follow NMMC norms and SOPs to curb dust, noise, and blasting
>> Industrial units must follow pollution-control norms
>> Avoid old two-stroke engine equipment like lawnmowers
>> Officials said dust levels typically rise in winter, prompting tighter enforcement. The civic body has appealed to residents to cooperate and help keep the city’s air clean
