Drugs destroyed under ‘Nasha Mukt Navi Mumbai
Continuing its crackdown on drugs under the ‘Nasha Mukt Navi Mumbai’ (Drug-Free Navi Mumbai) campaign, the Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate on Thursday destroyed narcotics worth Rs 26.48 crore. The contraband, seized from 35 cases, was destroyed at the government-approved Mumbai Waste Management Company in Taloja MIDC, Panvel, Raigad district.
As reported, the action against the drugs was carried out in the presence of MLA Smt Mandatai Mhatre, Joint Commissioner of Police Sanjay Yenpure, Additional Commissioner of Police Deepak Sakore, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sachin Gunjal.
Earlier, until September 26, narcotics worth Rs 11.61 crore were seized in 79 cases, which had already been destroyed as part of the same campaign.
According to police data, between 2023 and 2025, as many as 1,831 cases were registered against those involved in the consumption and sale of narcotics, leading to the arrest of 2,854 accused. Drugs worth Rs 70.18 crore were seized, including Rs 40 crore worth of narcotics recovered from 101 African nationals.
During this period, strict action was taken against African nationals who were illegally residing in Navi Mumbai. Following the measures, a total of 2,034 individuals were deported, and 989 of them have been blacklisted.
Police further said that seven major drug traffickers were booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). In addition, three proposals have been submitted to the state government seeking approval to take preventive action under PITNDPS against habitual offenders involved in the narcotics trade in Navi Mumbai.
Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe, under whose leadership the ‘Nasha Mukt Navi Mumbai’ campaign is being intensified, said the initiative also focuses on public awareness.
The Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner further asserted that various programs are being organised in schools, colleges, and housing societies to educate youth and citizens about the dangers of drug abuse.
“Citizens can provide information related to narcotics on the police helpline number 112 or through an optional dedicated helpline,” officials said.
