The Masjid has added 10 oxygen concentrators to its facility, taking the total to 12; citizens can take concentrators for a maximum of 10 days at a time

People in dire need of oxygen for relatives and friends suffering from Covid-19 can now reach out to the Juma Masjid located in South Mumbai for help. The Juma Masjid of Bombay Trust, which owns the mosque and Bada Qabristan, added 10 oxygen concentrators to its existing oxygen facility on Tuesday. All of the resources will be given to people for free, as long as they fulfil certain criteria.

The 10 oxygen cylinders were donated to Juma Masjid by Bandra East MLA Zeeshan Siddiqui. “He had bought more than 500 oxygen concentrators, after which, I contacted him and requested help,” said Shoaib Khatib, chairman, Juma Masjid of Bombay Trust. “He very kindly agreed and donated 10 machines to our oxygen facility which we have been operating since last year. Now we have 12 oxygen concentrators,” Khatib said.

Khatib said that people can contact the mosque’s helpline to request a machine. The trust would require details such as Aadhaar card of the patient and their handler and a doctor’s prescription. Machines will be given to those who need them from seven to a maximum of 10 days. Any damage caused to the machine would be chargeable. “The biggest advantage of having 10 concentrators is that we don’t have to worry about refilling oxygen cylinders. Concentrator machines provide natural oxygen and can run for 18 hours at a stretch,” Khatib said.
Drop in Covid-19 burials
The Bada Qabristan has seen a noticeable dip in the number of Covid-19 burials. Between April 12 and April 31, it had recorded a total of 100 Covid-19 burials. Whereas, in May, it has so far recorded only 64 Covid-19 burials.
