The Thane Traffic Police has announced temporary nighttime traffic diversions along key sections of the Kalyan-Shil Road under the jurisdiction of the Kolshewadi Traffic Division. These diversions have been enforced to facilitate construction work on Metro Line 12 and will remain in effect from August 11 to August 31, 2025, between 11.45 pm and 5.00 am daily.

The restrictions are necessary for the safe placement of cement concrete girders, being executed in phases to minimize disruption and ensure safety during low-traffic hours.

As per the official notification, traffic will be restricted nightly on the following stretches:

• From Manpada Chowk to Sonarpada Chowk
• From Suyog Regency Anantam to Venkateshwar Petrol Pump

Emergency vehicles will be allowed, and diversion routes have been clearly marked to manage flow and reduce congestion.

Vishwakant Pandey, a representative of Gawar Construction Ltd., the agency responsible for girder installation, said: “The work is strictly being done during night hours. Signboards are put up before starting and removed after the work ends. Since there’s no activity during the day, there’s no need to keep signs up in daytime hours.”

A site inspection confirmed girder placement between Manpada Chowk and Sonarpada, particularly near the Dombivli Nagari Sahakari Bank on the Kalyan to Shil Phata stretch.

Senior Inspector Sachin Sandbhor of the Kolshewadi Traffic Department said, “We ensure proper notice boards are displayed during night work hours, and our traffic personnel are deployed on-site to manage the situation and guide commuters.”

The Metro Line 12 project, a major infrastructure initiative to boost connectivity between Kalyan and Taloja, is being implemented by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The civil construction contract has been awarded to Gawar Construction Ltd., handling span erection and structural components.

According to MMRDA sources, the stretch from Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk in Kalyan to Manpada Circle comprises 240 spans. As of August 13, 2025, 13 spans have been completed — between pillar numbers 114 and 126. Currently, 20 girders are available on-site, and 10 more spans are planned for installation by August 31.

Authorities have urged commuters to remain patient and follow diversion signs, stressing public cooperation for safety and timely completion of this critical metro corridor.
