The rivalry between two groups at the National Sports Club of India (NSCI) gets uglier. A raid was conducted by the Tardeo Police station at the club in October, where they arrested 14 people for gambling.

Some of the elected representatives have written to the management of the club in the second week of December asking them why no stern action hasn&rsquo;t been taken against the arrested member yet. mid-day had reported the incident, &lsquo;14 held for gambling at NSCI, claim they were framed by rival group,&rsquo; (December 1).
The complaint, a copy of which is available with mid-day, has levelled several allegations against those arrested. The complaint starts with asking the management what action have they taken. &lsquo;It&rsquo;s more than 50 days to this event and yet no action has been initiated against the member.
Why was such a grave matter not taken up on urgent basis in the Regional Committee? It&rsquo;s quite surprising to know that small matters are immediately taken up in RC meets. However such pressing issues, which involve the club&rsquo;s reputation, are conveniently avoided,&rsquo; reads the complaint copy.
The member mentioned is S R Jain, who had told mid-day earlier that they were not gambling, and only playing cards. Raising questions on how more than four people were allowed in one room, the complaint says, &lsquo;How 14 people (12 + 2 helpers) were allowed in a room meant for 3 to 4 people and how was their food order accepted late in the night against the rules?&rsquo;
The complaint copy also asks, &lsquo;The most important question is how these people were allowed in the room after they were arrested (On Oct 17) and allowed to stay till the 18th afternoon? How was the room service staff allowed to serve food on the 18th afternoon, the day after they were raided and arrested?&rsquo;
The complainants have alleged the presence of a person named Vishal Jain, and asked who is he and how he was allowed to occupy the room. The complaint is signed by Shyam Nichani, Viren Shah, Tina Ajinkya, and Ramesh Jaisingh, all members of the club.
Shah said, &ldquo;Members are shocked and surprised that even after a lapse of two months no disciplinary action has been initiated against the concerned member, who was found actively involved in gambling. To go further, the erring member has certainly brought disrepute and tarnished the name of our club besides destroying the sanctity of our second home.
Members are perplexed as to the reasons and to whose behest the Club permitted this group to actually occupy the same room from where the member was arrested in the alleged gambling incident a few hours earlier.&rdquo; Ajinkya said, &ldquo;I was suspended for 6 months with a defamation case of Rs 90 lakh for reporting on a closed club Facebook group about a fly in a soup, and had a heated argument with the President.
The matter was amicably settled in court. The 6-month suspension was carried out within a few weeks and here, a member&rsquo;s nefarious activities cause a gambling raid in the club, and there is no action against this member?&rdquo;
