A 56-year-old dispute over land acquired in Owe village, Panvel, has ended with a civil court enhancing compensation for the landowners, holding that the Special Land Acquisition Officer had not adequately considered the property's location and non-agricultural potential.
In a judgment delivered on September 24, 2026, Third Civil Judge, Senior Division, Panvel, RY Khandare, fixed the market value of the acquired land at R20 per sq metre and directed payment of Rs 5,92,167.50, after adjusting the amount already received by the claimants. The award also includes applicable statutory benefits and interest. The land was acquired for the New Bombay Project following a Section 4 notification issued on February 3, 1970.
