A small portion of the ceiling collapsed in the 7th floor office of Maharashtra government's General Administration Department (GAD) in the Mantralaya complex in south Mumbai on Friday, an official said, reported then PTI.

No one was hurt in the incident, the official said.


The incident took place in the afternoon when a meeting was underway at the GAD office located in the state secretariat's Annex building, he added.



"A small portion of the ceiling fell. No one was hurt in the incident," the official said, according to the PTI.

Meanwhile, heavy rains continued to lash parts of Mumbai on Friday, slowing down vehicular traffic, officials said.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted 'heavy to very heavy' rains in the metropolis during the 24 hours starting 8.30 am, prompting the police to appeal to the public not to venture out.

The IMD has already issued an 'orange' alert for Mumbai and all its neighbouring districts, barring Raigad, where a 'red' alert has been sounded for Friday.

Though it had issued a similar alert on Thursday, the city received moderate rainfall.

As per a 'Monsoon Report' of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the island city, Eastern suburbs, and Western suburbs have so far received an average rainfall of 29.40 mm, 29.44 mm and 18.88 mm, respectively.

Portion of protection wall collapses in Thane; none hurt

Meanwhile in an another incident, a portion of a forest protection wall collapsed in Maharashtra's Thane city on Friday afternoon, and no one was injured in the incident, an official said, as per the PTI.

The incident occurred around 3.47 pm on Pokhran Road no. 1 in Thane West.

The wall, measuring approximately 20 feet long and 6 feet high, collapsed onto the internal road, said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell, reported the PTI.

"We received information about the incident from a resident, and our team immediately rushed to the location with a pickup vehicle and a JCB machine," he said, according to the PTI.

No one was injured as there were no pedestrians or vehicles in the vicinity at the time, the official said, adding that the area was secured, and normal movement resumed soon after.
