Rear Admiral Vivek Dahiya, NM, has officially taken charge as the Commander of the Indian Navy’s Western Fleet. He assumed command from Rear Admiral Rahul Vilas Gokhale, YSM, NM, during a ceremonial parade held in Mumbai, an official statement said on Sunday.
Rear Admiral Dahiya was commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1, 1993.
He is a specialist in Navigation and Direction and brings with him a wealth of experience gathered over more than three decades of service.
An alumnus of the Naval Academy in Mandovi, Goa, King’s College London, Naval War College in Goa, and the National Defence College in New Delhi, Rear Admiral Dahiya has held several important sea and shore appointments, it said.
At sea, he served as the Navigating Officer on board INS Kora, Delhi, Godavari, Mumbai, and the aircraft carrier INS Viraat. He also held the post of Fleet Navigating Officer of the Western Fleet. He commanded the missile corvette INS Karmuk and the guided missile destroyer INS Chennai, the official statement said.
His shore-based roles include training appointments as Officer-in-Charge of the Navigation and Direction School, Commodore Workup at the Indian Naval Workup Team, and Chief Staff Officer at the HQ Flag Officer Sea Training in Kochi. He has also served in key staff roles such as in the Directorate of Naval Operations and as Command Plans Officer at HQ Eastern Naval Command, the statement said.
He served as Naval Assistant to the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, and as Commodore (Staff Requirements) at Naval Headquarters in New Delhi. After being promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral, he took over as Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff (Staff Requirements) on November 16, 2023, it said.
