Hours before Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the new Maharashtra state headquarters of the BJP in Mumbai’s Churchgate area, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut launched a sharp attack on the party, alleging irregularities in the land transfer process for the new BJP office at Marine Lines.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Raut addressed Amit Shah directly, saying, “Dear Mr Amit Shahaji, Jai Maharashtra. Today, I am presenting information about what secret lies beneath the land of the BJP office, whose groundbreaking ceremony you are about to perform.”

Raut also wrote a letter to Amit Shah, alleging a “major scam” in the allocation of the land for the BJP’s new office. He claimed that administrative procedures were bypassed to expedite the land transfer in favour of the BJP.

According to Raut, the BJP took possession of a plot near Marine Lines Exide, previously owned by Eknath Realtors, within just 11 days of initiating the process. He alleged that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), currently being run by administrators “favourable to the BJP,” acted with unusual haste on the file, even as several civic development proposals remain pending.

In his letter, Raut stated that the plot was originally owned by the Maharashtra State Cooperative Finance Corporation (MSCFC), which had leased 46 per cent of the land to Eknath Realtors. The realtor later applied for the remaining 54 per cent and received swift approval.

Raut further alleged that Eknath Realtors paid a transfer premium of over Rs 21 crore, and that the Mumbai Suburban (Reform) Committee, chaired by the Chief Minister, approved the transaction on May 29, 2025. The BJP reportedly completed the plot transfer within 11 days, paying around Rs 3 crore in stamp duty.

Claiming that “transactions took place in a hurry at midnight,” Raut accused certain administrative officials of colluding with Eknath Realtors to hand over the land to the BJP “under political pressure.”

He demanded that Amit Shah, in his capacity as Union Home Minister, take cognisance of the alleged irregularities.

The foundation stone-laying ceremony for the new BJP state headquarters is scheduled to be attended by Amit Shah, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, state BJP president Ravindra Chavan, and other senior leaders.
