Saturday's Opposition protest rally in South Mumbai did not cause the expected traffic congestion, as the traffic police took commendable measures to ensure smooth flow of vehicles.

A parking area about 150 metres away from CSMT was designated for all protestors’ vehicles, and continuous monitoring through CCTV cameras helped ease the movement of traffic.

Two major roads were closed to traffic between 10 am and 7 pm — Mahatma Gandhi Road towards CSMT, and Brihanmumbai Mahanagarpalika Road. The protest started at 1 pm and went from Fashion Street to BMC headquarters.

DCP Prashant Pardeshi of the South Traffic Division told Sunday mid-day, “Our traffic advisory informed protestors not to park their vehicles on the roads and to use the allocated parking facility. Continuous CCTV monitoring helped us manage traffic effectively.”

Around 200 Traffic and Mumbai Police personnel were deployed.
