mid-day&rsquo;s front page report yesterday on Shiv Sena MLA Prakash Bala Sawant publicly abusing and threatening to strip and thrash an elderly woman has attracted the attention of several women&rsquo;s rights activists, and even the head of the Maharashtra State Commission for Women.

The outraged activists have demanded that Sawant should be severely punished if the woman&rsquo;s allegations are true and that he should be made an example of, so that people think twice before abusing a woman.
Some activists, speaking off the record, also wondered if the police, in the name of proper investigations, are shying away from arresting Sawant only because he is an MLA.

Women&rsquo;s rights activists have said that Prakash Bala Sawant, who was booked for threatening to publicly strip a woman, should be given exemplary punishment
