A renowned criminal lawyer with over 50 years of experience in courtrooms and close aide of late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray, Adhik Shirodkar, passed away on Saturday night. He was 83.

Sources close to the family said Shirodkar suffered a massive heart attack at one of his residences in Parel and breathed his last while being rushed to Jaslok Hospital. His last rites were performed at Chandanwadi Crematorium in Charni Road.
Shirodkar&rsquo;s health had been plagued by various problems in the recent past, confining him to the bed. Most recently, he suffered a gastro problem but recovered. An active advocate till his late 70s, the Rajya Sabha member was a photographer at heart.
In his last interview to mid-day, Shirodkar mentioned he had told Thackeray senior that he should not have made him the executor. &ldquo;I told Balasaheb that there is not much difference between his and my age.
And anything could happen to me before him. But he insisted that I be the executor. I assured him that I would execute the will and stand by it till the last breath.&rdquo;
Force to reckon with Those who worked or observed Shirodkar in courtrooms claimed he was an inspiration to many and juniors would attend his cases to learn a trick or two. An expert of criminal law, Shirodkar&rsquo;s defence was so strong that prosecution had to pull out all stops for a rebuttal.
