Mumbai: Three common convicts in two gangrapes at Shakti Mills in Mumbai sentenced to death by Mumbai court today for repeated offence.

Vijay Jadhav, Kasim Bengali and Salim Ansari are the first to be sentenced to death under Section 376 (E) of the Indian Penal Code&nbsp;for repeat offenders, which was brought in force along with major changes in the law after the fatal gangrape of a young para-medical student in Delhi in December, 2012.
"Any leniency in this case would be a travesty of justice. Life term will not be justice, it will be inadequate," the court said.
Principal Sessions Judge Shalini Phansalkar-Joshi delivered the much-awaited judgment in the case, sentencing the three to death penalty for repeated offences of gangrape - committed on July 31 and August 22, 2013, said Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam.

The fourth convict Siraj Rehman was awarded life term in the photojournalist case.
The 18-year-old telephone operator was gangraped on the premises of Shakti Mills in July last year a month before the photojournalist was brutalised on August 22.
The three men have already been sentenced to life imprisonment in that case.&nbsp;
The 22-year-old photo journalist of a magazine was gangraped by Vijay Jadhav, Kasim Bengali, Salim Ansari, Siraj Rehman and a minor boy when she had gone to the Shakti Mills compound in the Central Mumbai with a male colleague on an assignment.
The prosecution slapped the repeat offender charge against the three convicts so that they invite stringent punishment.
