Peter Mukerjea tries to make his case for bail; says he was afraid of his wife Indrani

Peter Mukerjea
“I am just a husband who has been fooled by his wife,” said Peter Mukerjea’s counsel Aabad Ponda on his behalf, while arguing for his bail in the Bombay High Court.
Peter’s bail application was rejected twice earlier by CBI court judge HS Mahajan, after which he decided to approach the HC.
Under her thumb
Ponda told Justice Ajay Gadkari, “Peter was so afraid of Indrani Mukerjea, his second wife, that even though he wanted to congratulate his son Rahul and Indrani’s daughter Sheena for getting engaged in 2011, he didn’t do so immediately because Indrani was against it. So, he took his driver Prashant’s phone and sent a message to the duo.”
“Indrani had introduced Sheena as her sister to Peter; she didn’t like Peter talking to her, so he even stayed away from her,” added Ponda.

Ponda claimed that Peter had been in custody for almost a year now and the only evidence the CBI had against him was circumstantial. Even in the 164 confessional statements given by driver Shyamvar Rai, there was no mention of Peter with respect to the day Sheena was killed, he said, adding that Peter was in the UK.
The break-up battle
It’s the CBI case that once in 2009 Peter separated Rahul and Sheena as Indrani was against the union. Indrani was also afraid that Sheena, after marriage to Rahul, could get a share in Peter’s property; hence, Peter reportedly helped her separate them.
However, as per Peter’s application, “I only told them about Indian values and that staying together before marriage was not allowed in our culture; hence, Rahul should first start earning and then get married.”
Ponda also claimed that Peter himself had got several emails from Sheena after her death; according to the CBI, these may have been sent by Indrani. “If he knew everything, why was he sent such emails?” argued Ponda.
