Shiv Sena, the majority ruling party in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has gone on an inauguration spree as the Lok Sabha polls are just around the corner. The string of ceremonies are being organised before the election code of conduct kicks in.

On Tuesday, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray performed the ground breaking ceremony of Britannia water pumping station at Reay Road, one of the civic body&rsquo;s most ambitious projects. Standing committee chairman performed a bhoomi pujan of a proposed sewage water treatment plant at Mahim.
Yesterday, the Sena chief inaugurated the Marol-Maroshi to Matunga water tunnel worth Rs 415 crore. The 12.02-km long tunnel will help the BMC provide better water supply, and also plug leaks and deter water thefts. Besides these, Thackeray is also slated to be present for at least 11 more functions in the city.
Credit wars While it is typical of political parties to lavish pre-poll attention on voters with such projects, in a characteristic fashion, the parties bickered over who takes the credit.
Dhananjay Pisal, leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in the BMC, said, &ldquo;This is not just the Sena&rsquo;s doing. It is the joint work of the whole corporation, including opposition parties that cleared the proposals. Shiv Sena is trying to grab undue credit, but the people know who has worked for them. We will see in the elections.&rdquo;
Sena leader Shewale, however, countered, &ldquo;This is just an attempt to reach people and fulfil the commitment we had given to them. I don&rsquo;t think there is anything wrong in it.&rdquo; He also added that all inaugurations would be completed before the code of conduct was enforced.
