An Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to conduct a comprehensive investigation into complaints related to the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mht-cet-row-ncp-sp-leader-rohit-pawar-seeks-transparent-inquiry-into-alleged-irregularities-23642064" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MH-CET)</a>, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Tuesday, reported the PTI.
MH-CET is a state-level entrance examination for admission to professional courses, including engineering.
"If any irregularity is found, action will be taken," Fadnavis told reporters after a Cabinet meeting.
The announcement comes after a delegation of teachers and students from across Maharashtra met the Chief Minister and raised several concerns about the conduct of the CET.
<h2>FIRs, forensic audit ordered</h2>
According to the PTI, CM Fadnavis said he had directed authorities to register First Information Reports (FIRs) in connection with the complaints and ordered investigations by joint commissioners of police.
He has also directed a forensic audit into allegations of a <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mh-cet-row-maharashtra-cet-cell-files-complaint-over-rs-12-lakh-special-exam-centre-offer-23641996" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">data leak related to the examination</a>.
The SIT will examine the complaints and investigate whether any irregularities took place during the examination process.
Fadnavis also said the state government had already decided to postpone certain examinations conducted by the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC).
He said remarks made by the chairman of a committee formed in connection with <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/rohit-pawar-alleges-rs-40-crore-fda-exam-leak-racket-demands-resignation-of-mpsc-chief-23649467" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">MPSC examinations</a> had been misinterpreted.
&ldquo;At present, none of the examinations are conducted online,&rdquo; Fadnavis said, adding that any future decision on conducting examinations online would be taken after discussions with students.
<h2>Government monitors rainfall situation</h2>
The Chief Minister also spoke about the rainfall situation in Maharashtra, saying the government was closely monitoring conditions across the state.
Several districts have experienced breaks in rainfall lasting up to 30 days, he said, raising concerns about possible water shortages and drought-like conditions.
The issue was discussed for around 45 minutes during the Cabinet meeting, with district-wise presentations made to ministers and officials.
<h2>Preparations begin for possible drought</h2>
Fadnavis said the state government had started preparations to deal with possible scarcity and drought-like conditions.
Under the norms of the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), an official survey to assess eligibility for assistance in the event of drought or scarcity can be carried out after October 5.
However, Fadnavis said the government would not wait until then to begin preparations.
&ldquo;We are not waiting until October 5. We have started gathering preliminary information and preparing other measures,&rdquo; he said.
<h2>Fadnavis assures support to farmers</h2>
The Chief Minister assured farmers that the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mpsc-drug-inspector-exam-paper-leak-three-officials-among-six-arrested-by-mumbai-crime-branch-23646931" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">state government</a> would take steps to support them if drought-like conditions worsen.
&ldquo;We will not leave farmers at the mercy of circumstances. The state government will stand firmly behind them,&rdquo; Fadnavis said.
