Despite warnings of multiple extreme weather conditions across Maharashtra in September, the amount of rainfall received in the first half of the month isn’t that high compared to 2019. However, it might feel like the city has received exceptional rainfall within the first 14 days of September, and that is due to the formation of favourable weather systems every alternate day, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This has caused “moderate to heavy rainfall” over the city almost daily, it added.

Last year, in the first half of September, rainfall patterns were heavy and erratic, with some days witnessing up to 242.2 mm showers, an IMD official said. On other days, the city received an average of 9 mm and 6.5 mm rainfall.
