Somali pirates shot dead an Indian sailor and injured his compatriot on board a ship hijacked in January this year, the Directorate of Shipping said here late Saturday night.

It said the deceased identified as Sudhir Suman on board the vessel 'MT SEA PRINCESS II' was shot at and injured in the firing by the pirates on January 2. Suman later succumbed to his injuries and his body was reported to have been thrown into the sea by the pirates on April 26, the Directorate said in a press release said quoting reliable sources.
