With his home being demolished hours before he was to appear for his last SSC board paper, Rishikesh Mane (15) did not have much hope for his results. But with the SSC results declared on Monday, Mane wore a happy face, as he had scored 67 per cent.

What&rsquo;s more, he managed to score 84 per cent in the paper for which he had appeared a few hours after his house was razed. &ldquo;I had my Sanskrit examination at three in the afternoon. But by around 11 in the morning, the builders and police barged inside our compound and began the demolitions,&rdquo; said Mane.

Mane lived with his parents at Bogda Chawl, which was demolished by Spee Builders on March 26. With one paper to go, Mane was under tremendous pressure. &ldquo;I could not focus while writing my paper. All I could think about was that I had lost my home,&rdquo; said Mane, who added that all his belongings were still in the chawl.
With some help However, Mane managed to prepare for his paper with the help of his friends and relatives. &ldquo;I had almost decided to not appear for my paper, but my parents did not want me to waste a year. Not wanting to add to my parents&rsquo; misery, I took help from my friends and appeared for the examination,&rdquo; said Mane, who scored 84 marks in this subject.
Mane, who studied at R M Bhatt Marathi Medium High School, Parel, had his examination centre in the same school. &ldquo;Fortunately for me, my school authorities were very considerate with my situation, and helped me out with my hall ticket as I had lost that too,&rdquo; said Mane.
He is now staying with his relatives after the demolition. &ldquo;After a very long time, my parents have got a chance to smile. I am glad I am the reason behind it,&rdquo; said Mane.
