A 39-year-old woman has alleged that someone has been stalking her for many days and even broke into her Malad flat in her absence, smeared colour on her belongings and even stole money. Police have filed a robbery case.

The woman, who hails from Delhi, posted about the incident on Twitter on Tuesday. “I am a single woman in Mumbai and I am scared for my life. My phone was hacked then somebody broke into my house in my absence, smeared colour all over my clothes, belongings and floor. No help from @MumbaiPolice @CPMumbaiPolice . I fear for my safety. Need help soon,” she tweeted.

Within minutes, police responded and later the Malad police visited her house. Officers told mid-day that they did not find anything suspicious. Senior Inspector Dhananjay Lingade of Malad police station said, “After the tweet, we called her to the police station and also sent our team to her house, but didn’t find anything suspicious. We told her that nobody is following her and her mobile phone has not been hacked. Two of our officers even checked the entire area of the society, but didn’t find anything.”

“According to the complainant, Rs 4,000-Rs 5,000 was missing from her house. So, we registered a case under Section 379 (robbery) of the IPC,” Lingade said, adding that police are investigating her stalking charges, and will add relevant sections and take appropriate action if they find something.

The woman on Wednesday also wrote a letter to the police commissioner. “In the letter, she wrote that someone is following her and her mobile phone has been hacked, and that she is scared. She said that instead of registering an FIR, the cops registered a case of robbery,” police sources said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 11) Vishal Thakur said, “We have registered the FIR in the matter and our team is working on it. We are checking all CCTV cameras in the area.” The complainant works with a production house in Mumbai, said the police.
