The Maharashtra government on Saturday invited tenders for its ambitious project to put in place a CCTV surveillance project for Mumbai. The tender notice invited applicants to participate in a competitive bidding process to &lsquo;design, implement, and operate for five years a state-of-the-art IP-based CCTV surveillance system for Mumbai city&rsquo;. The last date for submission is August 8.

Representational Pic only As per the latest tender document, the state government has made it mandatory for the interested firms to have a registration in India, while both consortium partners will have to show a substantial financial backing ranging between Rs 300 to Rs 1,000 crore. The two consortium partners have been also been jointly made responsible for any eventuality or losses to government. During a previous bid, one of the consortium partners had backed out following submission of forged financial instruments by second partner. The bid eventually fell through, while the government blacklisted the consortium. The home department has also asked potential bidders to show a minimum positive net worth of Rs 100 crore. This is the fourth time the state home department has invited tenders for the Rs 1,200-crore project to create a network of 6,000 CCTV cameras across the city. The earlier tenders fell through with national and global firms showing little interest in picking up the request for proposal (RFP). The project has been delayed ever since the panel probing the 26/11 terror attacks recommended installing 6,000 cameras across the city. mid-day had earlier reported on May 23 how the Rs 1,200-crore project had been stuck in limbo over technology wars &mdash; while the Maharashtra police wanted an optical fibre network laid by public sector undertakings while bidders were pushing for a 3G wireless network for the entire system.
