The differences between the parties may be voiced again and again, but when it came to helping the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Gujarat state on humanitarian grounds, the Maharashtra government&rsquo;s Shiv Sena-led Health Ministry did so right away.

The Gujarat government recently asked Maharashtra government&rsquo;s Health Ministry to provide them with Tamiflu capsules used to treat swine flu and Health Minister Dr Deepak Sawant immediately sent them. The disease has affected many people in both Maharashtra and Gujarat. Maharashtra has 297 patients of swine flu, and 46 have died of the disease. About 116 people have died of it in Gujarat.
Dr Sawant said, &ldquo;We provided all the help that our neighbouring state, Gujarat needed, and we will keep doing it.&rdquo;On being asked how much stock the government sent to Gujarat, he said, &ldquo;We have sent 2,500 capsules to Gujarat till now and will send more if needed.&rdquo;
Improving facilities Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray visited Mantralaya on Thursday, and met Dr Sawant regarding health issues. Sawant and Thackeray discussed introducing a water ambulance, that will ferry patients via the sea route during emergencies and during traffic jams.
Thackeray said, &ldquo;The ambulances will be well equipped, and will deal with any form of casualties during emergency. Currently 17 states in India offer this 108 emergency response better than our state. We have to improve our services radically.
We will have a follow-up meeting in the coming week, with a fully drawn action plan to be implemented as soon as possible&rdquo; They also spoke on child and mother mortality rate and having well equipped emergency services for road accidents. Setting up basic stabilisation and trauma care centres along the highways was also discussed.
Thackeray and Sawant also discussed giving better facilities at civic run hospitals in all the municipal corporations. The minister also said that he will talk to the Chief Minister to officially accept the Shiv Aarogya Sena (telemedicine), a pet project of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, as the official project of the state.
Telemedicine wherein doctors in metros will help patients in rural areas via video-conferencing &mdash; was part of the Shiv Sena manifesto and Uddhav even launched it officially last week.
