It has been learnt that the state government has nearly completed drafting new rules and regulations for private cab aggregators, and is likely to issue a Government Resolution (GR) on the same in two weeks&rsquo; time.

Senior officials from the transport department said the new guidelines may include measures such as having a panic button in the cab for an emergency, compulsory licences for cab drivers, monitoring mechanisms for the fare system and a cap on periodical fare hike.
The taxi services will also be authorised and certified by the government. Most of the app-based taxi service providers, including Uber, have agreed to the new rules and to work under aregulatory body. &ldquo;Only one of the private cab services resisted, but on realising that not having a government recognition could hurt their business, they agreed. A notification will be issued on the same within a fortnight,&rdquo; said a senior official.
The current regulations under which operators like Meru, Tab Cabs and private cab aggregators function in Mumbai came under intense scrutiny following the Uber rape case. A few days ago, state transport minister Diwakar Raote had also said that the government was looking at home ministry&rsquo;s advisory of banning all app-based cab services.
In the wake of the Uber rape case in Delhi, the union home ministry had issued an advisory to ban app-based taxi services until due processes were followed. However, union transport minister Nitin Gadkari said that a blanket ban was not the ultimate solution.
