The Tata Mumbai Marathon 2026 concluded a few hours ago, Kartik Karkera and Anish Magar finished in the top two positions in the Indian Elite Marathon-Men category, marking a notable outcome on a day that saw thousands of runners participate across categories in Mumbai.
Ethiopian runner Tadu Abate Deme finishes first at the Elite Marathon-Men category with a timing of 2:09:55. While his fellow countryman Merhawi Weldemaryam secured the third position. The second position on Sunday at the Tata Mumbai Marathon was captured by Kenyan athlete Leonard Langat.
Indian athletes show stronghold in the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2026
Kartik Karkera was the best Indian athlete who finished the race with a timing of 2:19:55, setting a new benchmark in the category. Kartik was followed by Anish Magar, who secured second place after clocking 2:20:08. The results highlighted a strong showing by Indian runners in a marathon that features elite international competition alongside domestic talent.
Over the years, the marathon has grown into one of the country’s largest mass-participation sporting events, drawing professional athletes, amateurs and first-time runners alike.
Rajat Khurana, Managing Director of ASICS India and South Asia, said, “The scale of participation reflected the growing interest in long-distance running across the country and pointed to the performances of Karkera and Magar as evidence of improving standards among Indian marathoners.”
Beyond the Mumbai event, ASICS continues to be involved in several major road races across India, including the New Delhi Marathon, TCS World 10K Bengaluru and the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon. These associations form part of a broader effort to support competitive athletes while encouraging wider participation in running.
