A birthday gift from his son proved costly for Ghatkopar resident Raju Kamble after cops came knocking at his door. Following the theft, the cops began tracing all the IMEI numbers of the cell phones stolen that day. When Raju began using the phone gifted by his son Kiran, the police got their lead. An official from Pant Nagar police station said, &ldquo;The family celebrated Raju&rsquo;s birthday in the first week of June during which the accused had gifted him a high-end cell phone. He claimed he had purchased it with his hard-earned money.&rdquo; Cops traced the mobile on July 29 after which they brought Raju to the police station for interrogation. During the course of questioning, the cops learnt that his son gifted the phone to him on his birthday. They immediately called in Kiran to the station where he confessed to his crime. Later, they also arrested Kiran&rsquo;s accomplice Tushar Shashikant Chavan. According to officials, Kiran and Chavan, both 19-years-old, were wanted in several other cases of theft. Kamble was a school dropout, and both of them are addicted to drugs and alcohol, cops said. When they didn&rsquo;t have enough money for their vices, they began stealing mobile phones. An official said, &ldquo;The two would enter stores by making a hole in the roof and then flee with the mobile phones and later sell them at railway stations.&rdquo; Authorities added they were able to recover goods worth Rs 16,000 of the entire stolen booty worth Rs 1.63 lakh. The duo has been booked under sections 454 (lurking, house trespass or housebreaking), 457 (housebreaking in night) and 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the Indian Penal Code. The two were produced in Vikhroli court on Tuesday and have been remanded in police custody. u00a0
