Global EV giant Tesla on Tuesday made its much-awaited entry into India, launching its Model Y with price starting at Rs 59.89 lakh while opening its first experience centre in Mumbai's Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).

Tesla, led by American tech billionaire Elon Musk who had in the past cited India's high import tariffs for the company not entering the country earlier, will be importing the Model Y as a completely built unit (CBU), from its Shanghai manufacturing facility in China.

The mid-sized electric SUV Model Y, which was once the world's best-selling car, will be offered in India in two variants -- rear-wheel drive with base price at Rs 59.89 lakh and long-range rear wheel drive at a base price of Rs 67.89 lakh.

Tesla has officially entered the Indian market with the launch of the Model Y, priced at Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom).

The electric SUV is currently available in rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant and long range rear-wheel-drive at Rs 59,89,00 and Rs 67,89,000 respectively.

The on-road price of the RWD version is Rs 61,07,190 and the on-road price of the long range RWD is Rs 69,15,190.

Buyers can book both the variants today at Rs 22,220.

The Model Y is available in six colour options, with Stealth Grey being the only one provided at no additional charge. The other colours—Pearl White Multi-Coat, Diamond Black, Ultra Red, Quicksilver, and Glacier Blue—will incur extra charges. Currently, deliveries and registration are only available in Mumbai, Delhi, and Gurugram, as listed on Tesla's official portal. Prices may vary depending on the state and local taxes. Deliveries of the Tesla Model Y are anticipated to commence in the third quarter of 2025.

With a WLTP-certified range of 622 km on a full charge, the electric SUV offers long-distance capability without frequent stops. It reaches a top speed of 201 km/h, and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds, making it both efficient and thrilling to drive. The Model Y brings Tesla’s signature performance to Indian roads, now with a strong focus on range and speed.

Tesla offers a range of customisation options and add-ons for the Model Y, which can notably impact the final on-road price. For instance, selecting the Full Self-Driving (FSD) package will add an extra Rs 6 lakh to the cost.

The Tesla Model can be booked by card, UPI QR or UPI Collect. Payment can be made on the official Tesla website for online booking.
