The Anti-Corruption Bureau of Thane has registered a corruption case against five people including three officials of Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation, an architect and contractor. The accused on the BSUP (Basic Service for Urban Poor) scheme has taken away a sum of 3.21 crore and utilized it for their own purposes.

The case has been registered at Bazarpeth police station and on Friday different teams of Anti-Corruption Bureau Thane conducted house raids at seven places including five residences of the accused and two offices of the arhitect and contractor.
The five accused, who have been booked by the ACB include Govind Rathod (former Commissioner KDMC), P. Karbhari Ugale (City Engineer), Ravi Jauras (Executive engineer), Subhash Patil (Architect, project management Consultant) and Jitendra Jain (Contractor and Director of M/S New infrastructors Private limited).
On September 18, 2014, the Thane ACB received a complaint regarding the fraud and cheating in the BSUP scheme that was approved in 2008. The complainant also filed an application in the High court regarding the same. "In September 2014, after we received the complaint we started our investigation and opened an inquiry was initiative and order in the matter. Accordingly we started gather information regarding the fraud and after we found proper documents that proved the officials were guilty, we registered a case on Friday morning and are further investigating the matter," said Datta Karale, Superintendent of Police, Thane ACB.
A case has been registered at Bazarpeth police station under sections 109, 120(B), 409 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code and different sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Karale further added that the team of ACB officials have conducted house searches at seven different places in Thane and Kalyan. "We have conducted a house search at seven places that include five residences of the accused and two offices of the Architect and Contractor. The search operation is going on and we are further trying to get the documents and other property of the accused. Yet no one is arrested in the case," added Karale who claims that the search operation will go on till late night.
In 2008, with any permission from the standing committee the contractor was given Rs 2, 02,00,000 for Ambedkar nagar project and 1,27,00,000 for Datta nagar project. "Around 3.29 crore was given to the contractor as mobilization advance to give temporary accommodation to the tenants. But not a single work in the project was started. The contractor and other officials use the cash for personal use," added the officer.
The officer further added architect gave Rs 14,78,000 cash to bogus tenants stating as rent. "They claim that they gave the above cash as rent to 23 tenants of Ambedkar nagar and 130 tenants of Datta Nagar. But not a single tenant had received the cash. The cash was given as per Rs 10,000 to reach. We are further verifying the fact," added the officer.
