A day after a devastating tanker explosion claimed four lives and left six injured on the premises of Century Rayon factory in Thane district, Maharashtra, authorities made a grim discovery on Sunday as they found "body parts" in nearby buildings, according to a senior official.

According to the PTI report, among the injured, one individual remains in serious condition. The tragic incident unfolded at the manufacturing unit of Century Rayon in Shahad, located 60 km from Mumbai. According to the company's statement, a third-party tanker, which had recently arrived for inspection before filling, suffered a rupture around 11:15 am on Saturday, leading to the catastrophic explosion. The blast was of such magnitude that individuals in proximity to the tanker were tragically blown into pieces.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Ulhasnagar) Amol Koli confirmed the recovery of "body parts" and indicated that their investigative team is in the process of collecting and documenting these remains. However, the task of reconstructing and identifying victims based on these fragmented parts presents a formidable challenge.

The company's spokesperson Mehul Lalka had earlier said that the explosion led to the immediate death of two workers while six others were injured. He had also said that two others were untraceable. “The explosion led to immediate death of two workers, while six were injured. Two workers are still untraceable,” Lalka was quoted as saying in mid-day's previous report.

The deceased were identified as Shailesh Yadav and Rajesh Srivastav while Sagar Zalte, Pandit More, Prakash Nikam, Hansraj Sarod, Amit Bharnuke and Mohammed Arman sustained severe injuries. They are under treatment at a medical facility operated by the Century Rayon company.

Meanwhile, the hunt for Pawan Yadav and Anant Dingore was on during which the body parts were found near the explosion site. Rescue teams have been sifting through the debris left by the explosion in order to trace Yadav and Dingore.

Century Rayon is a leading company in the filament yarn market in India which is operated by Grasim Industries Limited, a company owned by the Aditya Birla Group.
