A container truck driver was injured after the vehicle plunged into a 10-foot-deep pit dug for a water tank as part of Metro bridge work in Maharashtra's <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/thane-civic-body-sends-215-member-team-to-flood-hit-dahanu-for-cleanup-and-disease-prevention-23641546" rel="nofollow">Thane city </a>on Sunday morning, civic officials said.
As per PTI, the incident occurred around 6 am near Chitalasar-Manpada police station on the city's arterial Ghodbunder Road.
Thane Municipal Corporation's Regional Disaster Management Cell chief Yasin Tadvi, while briefing about the incident, highlighted that the container was carrying about 25 tonnes of scrap tyres from Nhava Sheva to Gujarat when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Tadvi asserted, "The container driver lost control over the steering, causing the heavy vehicle to crash into a nearly 10-foot pit dug for a water tank as part of the ongoing metro bridge construction work. The driver got trapped inside the cabin," as cited by PTI.
Upon receiving the information, the police, Metro project staff, and other rescue personnel rushed to the spot.
The officials said, "Fire brigade personnel rescued the trapped driver, identified as Amit Yadav (30), after nearly 15 minutes of efforts. He sustained minor injuries and was given immediate first aid," as per PTI.&nbsp;
Furthermore, the driver was subsequently handed over to the police for further formalities.
As a safety precaution, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/thane-10-residents-rescued-after-fire-breaks-out-in-residential-building-basement-23641522" rel="nofollow">RDMC personnel secured the perimete</a>r around the pit using barricades. Efforts were underway to tow the container out of the pit. &nbsp;
<h2>Car driver killed after vehicle catches fire following crash with auto in Malad&nbsp;</h2>
In a separate incident, a 24-year-old car driver died after his vehicle caught fire following a collision with an autorickshaw on JJ Road in the Malad area of Mumbai on Friday evening, officials said.
The incident was reported to the Mumbai Fire Brigade at around 6.41 pm.
According to officials, the car caught fire immediately after crashing into the autorickshaw.
Firefighters reached the spot and extinguished the blaze by around 7.12 pm.
The car driver, identified as Abdul Matten (24), was taken to BDBA Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
<h2>Auto driver under treatment</h2>
The autorickshaw driver also <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-car-accident-24-year-old-car-driver-killed-after-vehicle-catches-fire-following-crash-with-autorickshaw-in-malad-23641447" rel="nofollow">sustained injuries</a> in the accident and is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Doctors said the injured driver's condition is stable.
Personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, and the 108 ambulance service rushed to the scene after the accident.
The cause of the crash is yet to be established, and police are investigating the incident.
