A 20-year-old man drowned in a water-filled quarry in Diva area in Maharashtra's Thane after <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-16-year-old-dies-after-drowning-at-juhu-chowpatty-police-launches-probe-23633909" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">misjudging the depth of the water while swimming</a>, officials said on Tuesday.
The incident was reported at around 8.33 pm on June 8 near Marathon Tower, alongside the railway tracks in the Betawade area of Diva.
According to officials, the victim, identified as Monu Solanki, had entered the quarry for a swim when he drowned after losing his bearings in the deep water.
Following the alert, personnel from the Diva Police Chowky, the Fire Brigade and the Regional Disaster Management&nbsp; Cell (RDMC) team rushed to the spot. Rescue teams arrived with one rescue vehicle and one fire engine to conduct a search operation.
<h2>Search suspended due to darkness</h2>
<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/thane-drowning-fire-brigade-police-and-fishermen-join-search-in-mithbandar-creek-to-recover-mans-body-23630872" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Rescue workers carried out a search operation</a> for nearly an hour on Monday night. However, the operation was temporarily suspended after dark with permission from the police, as visibility conditions made the search difficult.
Officials said efforts resumed the following morning with the assistance of fire brigade personnel and disaster response teams.
<h2>Body recovered</h2>
During the renewed search operation on June 9, rescue teams located and recovered Solanki's body from the quarry.
The body was brought out of the water and handed over to the Daighar Police for further legal procedures.
<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/five-rescued-from-drowning-at-goa-beaches-dudhsagar-waterfall-over-weekend-23621324" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Police have initiated further proceedings</a> and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
<h2>16-year-old dies after drowning at Juhu</h2>
A 16-year-old boy lost his life after drowning at <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/mumbai-crime-mans-body-found-in-pieces-in-bag-at-juhu-beach-cops-arrest-30-year-old-suspect-probe-underway-23615952" rel="nofollow">Juhu beach</a> near the JW Marriott Hotel in Juhu West on Friday evening, officials said.
According to preliminary information, the incident was reported to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) at around 7:31 pm. Following the alert, rescue teams from the fire brigade, along with lifeguards, local police personnel, and a 108 ambulance service, rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
The victim, identified as Sarfaraz Khan, was pulled out of the water by the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-20-year-old-found-dead-as-beach-outing-turns-tragic-for-two-boys-23587706" rel="nofollow">BMC fire brigade</a> personnel and lifeguards. He was immediately shifted to Cooper Hospital for medical treatment.
However, upon reaching the hospital, doctors declared the teenager "brought dead." While the exact circumstances leading to the drowning are yet to be ascertained.
