A gas pipeline was damaged during drainage work in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/thane-building-gallery-collapses-residents-evacuated-as-city-records-scattered-showers-23632951" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Thane West in Maharashtra</a> on Sunday afternoon, leading to a temporary disruption in gas supply to around 180 consumers in the Louiswadi area, officials said.
They said that no injuries were reported and the situation was brought under control shortly after the incident.
According to the Thane Municipal Corporation&rsquo;s (TMC) Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC), the incident occurred at around 2.53 pm near Matoshree Society, opposite Jawahar Jyoti Society, on Pipeline Road in Ambika Nagar No. 1, Louiswadi.
The pipeline was damaged when a JCB machine working on a drainage project undertaken by a construction company accidentally struck a Mahanagar Gas pipeline.
<h2>Emergency teams rush to spot</h2>
Following the incident, personnel from Mahanagar Gas, the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-thane-fire-brigade-controls-blaze-in-open-area-at-manpada-no-casualties-23632948" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Disaster Management Cell</a> and the Fire Brigade rushed to the site, officials said.
Emergency responders arrived with a fire engine, a rescue vehicle and a pickup vehicle to ensure public safety and monitor the situation.
The officials said that there was no threat to residents and no casualties were reported.
<h2>Gas supply temporarily suspended</h2>
As a precautionary measure, Mahanagar Gas officials immediately shut the main valve to stop the gas leak.
The temporary shutdown affected approximately 180 domestic consumers in the Louiswadi area while repair work was carried out.
<h2>Repairs completed, supply restored</h2>
Repair work on the damaged pipeline was completed at around 5.30 pm.
According to information provided by Mahanagar Gas, the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/cng-price-hike-mumbai-cng-price-hiked-by-rs-2-per-kg-mahanagar-gas-limited-cites-global-energy-crisis-23630409" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">gas supply</a> to all 180 affected consumers was restored after the completion of repairs.
Officials said the situation remained fully under control throughout the operation.
<h2>PNG supply affected after pipeline damage in Dadar</h2>
Meanwhile, in an another incident, a gas pipeline belonging to <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/cng-price-hike-mumbai-cng-price-hiked-by-rs-2-per-kg-mahanagar-gas-limited-cites-global-energy-crisis-23630409" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL)</a> ruptured in Mumbai&rsquo;s Dadar West area on Friday evening after it was accidentally struck by a JCB machine during excavation work, officials said.
The incident took place on Gokhale Road near the Portuguese Church and close to Mejwani restaurant. According to officials, the machine was clearing tree roots in the area when it damaged the pipeline.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade quickly reached the spot after the leak was reported at around 6.01 pm, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
As gas began leaking rapidly from the damaged pipeline, authorities immediately took precautionary measures to avoid any danger. Residents nearby were advised to keep their doors and windows shut and avoid using electrical appliances.
Restaurants and commercial establishments in the vicinity were also asked to temporarily stop operations and switch off all gas flames until the situation was brought under control.
The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-fire-breaks-out-at-residential-building-near-sassoon-dock-in-colaba-woman-injured-23632582" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Mumbai Fire Brigade</a> also closed one lane of the road to prevent crowding and ensure public safety.
In an official statement, MGL said the gas pipeline was damaged due to the impact of a JCB during excavation work carried out by a third party.
The company said gas supply in the surrounding area was temporarily stopped as a safety measure while repair work is being carried out. Affected customers are being informed about the temporary disruption, it said.
MGL also expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to residents and businesses due to the incident.
