A label on the shirt of an 82-year-old man helped the Government Railway Police (GRP) identify him and trace his family within two hours of his body being found at a railway station in Maharashtra’s Thane district, news agency PTI reported on Tuesday, quoting an officer.
According to the officer, the elderly man was run over by a train, and his body was discovered on the tracks at Dombivli Railway Station on Monday. A case of accidental death was registered under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). However, the GRP initially had no clues to establish his identity, as the man had no documents or personal belongings on him.
During the investigation, the police team noticed a label on the victim’s shirt, which led them to the tailor who had stitched it, reported PTI. The team sent the tailor a photograph of the deceased on WhatsApp. He identified the man and shared the family’s contact information, the officer said.
The deceased was identified as Shashikant Bhoir, and the GRP subsequently traced his son and handed over the body to the family.
Two youths run over by train in UP’s Firozabad
Two youths were killed on Tuesday after being run over by a train on the Etawah–Tundla rail section near Katora Buzurg, news agency PTI reported, quoting police.
Their bodies were found along the tracks by the Government Railway Police (GRP), who then alerted the local police.
Circle Officer Anup Kumar Chaurasiya said efforts are underway to identify the deceased, as no documents were found on them. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem after completing the required formalities.
Eyewitness accounts suggest the duo may have fallen from a moving train, the officer added. A detailed probe is in progress.
Haryana: Woman slips while boarding moving train, GRP constable saves her life
A Government Railway Police (GRP) constable saved the life of a woman passenger at Panipat Railway Station in Haryana after she slipped while attempting to board a moving train, officers said on November 29.
The incident took place around 3.30 pm when a train travelling from Kurukshetra to Delhi arrived at Platform No 1. As passengers began to board and alight, a woman aged around 45–50 years, who was travelling alone, placed her luggage inside the coach and then tried to get in.
However, as the train picked up speed, she lost her balance, and her foot slipped dangerously into the gap between the platform and the coach.
Acting swiftly, GRP constable Jagrup Singh rushed towards her and managed to pull her away from the moving train, preventing a major accident.
The entire incident was captured on the station’s CCTV cameras.
The woman, when asked, stated that she was completely safe and had not sustained any injury.
