A 44-year-old infertility specialist from Thane has been arrested by the Thane Crime Branch for allegedly raping a 21-year-old woman, who had visited his clinic for treatment. The arrested doctor will be in police custody until August 22.
According to the police, the victim, who married two years ago, is a housewife and in search of a job. She had approached the accused, Dr Pratik Tambe, at Nirmiti Fertility &amp; IVF in Naupada, for a fertility test on Thursday, but instead, he allegedly raped her.

A senior officer from Naupada police station said, &ldquo;Under the pretext of a check-up, he stripped her and put some liquid in her private part. Then, he took off his clothes and raped her. When she tried to scream, he put his hand over her mouth and threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone.&rdquo;

A case has been registered at Naupada police station under sections 376 (rape), 420 (cheating) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

&ldquo;The accused, Tambe, was arrested the same night (Thursday) and produced in the Thane sessions court. He has been sent to police custody till August 22. Further investigation in the case has been handed over to the Thane Crime Branch,&rdquo; said R D Shinde, sub-inspector, Thane Crime Branch Unit I.
