The Kolshewadi police have registered a case against 14 persons, including a college professor, after dummy candidates were found attempting the National Institute of Open Schooling&rsquo;s examination at Saket College in Kalyan East on Wednesday.

A senior officer from the Kolshewadi police station said around five BJP activists conducted a surprise check around 2.30 pm at the classroom in which the examination was being held, and found that six candidates had fake hall tickets and many other students had cheat sheets with them.
The BJP workers alerted the police about the malpractices.
&ldquo;We found the ID cards of six candidates to be fake,&rdquo; said M Kathore, assistant police inspector from Kolshewadi police station.
Based on a complaint from college principal Mamta Singh, the police registered a case against 14 persons &mdash; six students and as many dummy candidates, invigilator Anil Dubey, who allowed the malpractices to go unchecked, and Vijay Pal, a professor from St Thomas College who arranged for the dummy candidates. The six dummy candidates were arrested and produced in court on Thursday. They have been remanded in police custody till April 30.
The police found that Pal ran a racket that provided dummy candidates.
&ldquo;He used to charge each student Rs 40,000 to arrange a dummy candidate. He also used to provide unscrupulous invigilators for such examinations. Each dummy candidate earned R200-500 per examination. The dummy candidates who have been arrested claimed that they were in it only for their pocket money,&rdquo; said a senior police officer.
The police filed the case under Sections 419 (cheating by impersonation) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code and various sections of the Maharashtra Prevention of Malpractices at University, Board and Other Specified Examinations Act, 1982.
