They were rescued from Naiknagar Chawl (old building with small rooms) in Diva town by the Thane Municipal Corporation's Disaster Management Cell (DMC) and Fire Brigade personnel, they said.
Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Disaster Management Cell, said, "We received information at our control room at around 10.15 pm regarding people stuck in water inside Naiknagar Chawl. Our teams immediately rushed to the spot along with a Fire Brigade vehicle," reported PTI.
According to officials, rainwater had entered several houses in the locality, creating panic among residents.
"A total of 13 residents were safely evacuated from the chawl premises. They were shifted out of waterlogged areas by our personnel," Tadvi informed, reported PTI.
Heavy rains in parts of Thane and adjoining regions over the last two days have led to waterlogging in low-lying areas, with the local administration maintaining a close watch on vulnerable pockets.
Meanwhile, a man died after falling into a water-filled quarry, while an inundated bridge in the Kalyan area was closed after heavy rains lashed Maharashtra's Thane district, officials said on Wednesday, reported PTI.
The neighbouring Palghar district also witnessed heavy overnight showers, flooding low-lying areas and disrupting movement at several locations, they said.
On Tuesday, authorities rescued 194 persons trapped in inundated areas of Vasai taluka in Palghar using boats and ropes on Tuesday, they said, reported PTI.
At Nanivali in Ambede area of Palghar, nearly 5,000 chickens perished after flooding at a farmer's poultry farm, district disaster management CEO and resident deputy collector Subhash Badge said, reported PTI.
A man, identified as Aditya Singh, died after falling into a water-filled quarry around midnight at Rabale in Navi Mumbai township of Thane district, an official from the disaster control room said, reported PTI.
Flood waters rose over the Runde bridge in Kalyan, forcing its closure, tehsildar Sachin Shejal said.
"The movement on the bridge has been stopped and vehicles are being diverted via the Khadavli-Utarne route," he said, reported PTI.
