A tempo <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/thane-two-parked-cars-catch-fire-on-ghodbunder-road-no-injuries-23619270" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">caught fire on the Ghodbunder Road</a> in Maharashtra's Thane city on Wednesday morning, affecting vehicular movement on the busy carriageway, officials said
No injuries were reported in the incident that occurred when the vehicle was on the Waghbil flyover, they said.
The civic body's Disaster Management Cell said it received information about the fire at 6:40 am.
<h2>Fire breaks out while truck was heading towards Ghodbunder</h2>
An Eicher tempo transporting an export consignment of brass nuts and bolts caught fire. The driver stopped the vehicle and escaped just before it was engulfed in flames, said an official.
The incident occurred on Waghbil Bridge in Waghbil, Thane (West), when the Eicher truck bearing registration number GJ 70 TY 8727 caught fire while travelling from Thane towards Ghodbunder. The vehicle was being driven by Firoz Shah.
After being alerted, firefighters and other emergency personnel from the Thane civic body rushed to the spot and doused the fire.
Due to the incident, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/thane-traffic-updates-traffic-affected-at-ghodbunder-road-in-thane-after-petrol-tanker-emits-smoke-situation-brought-under-control-say-officials-23625572" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">traffic on the vital Ghodbunder route</a> was temporarily disrupted, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Pankaj Shirsat told PTI.
"Our teams reacted promptly to divert the vehicular movement underneath the flyover to prevent a massive gridlock. Thanks to the quick response of the firefighting team, the blaze was extinguished, and the vehicle was cleared using a hydra machine. Traffic has now been completely restored and is moving smoothly," he said, reported PTI.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the fire, said the official.

Following the alert, traffic police personnel and teams from the Fire Brigade reached the spot along with one rescue vehicle and one fire engine.

In another case, a 50-year-old <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/woman-dies-after-scooter-hits-pothole-in-thane-district-23637710" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">woman riding pillion on a scooter lost her life</a> after the two-wheeler hit a pothole in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Wednesday, reported PTI.
The incident occurred near Jambhale village on the night of June 28, they said.
Aruna Arun Kulkarni was returning home with her 25-year-old son, Pratik Kulkarni, who was riding a scooter, after visiting the Titwala Ganpati temple, they said, reported PTI.
When the scooter was on the Jambhale river bridge, a pothole appeared ahead. Pratik applied the brakes, but ended up crashing into the crater. Aruna was thrown off the vehicle, sustaining severe injuries, an official said, reported PTI.
Pratik rushed his mother to the Sub-District Hospital in Badlapur East, but doctors declared her dead, he said.
Police have registered a case of accidental death and sent the body for a postmortem, the official added.
