Thane will witness temporary traffic restrictions on the busy Ghodbunder Road on January 18 as the Thane City Traffic Department undertakes critical infrastructure work for the installation of a foot overbridge (FOB). The restrictions will be enforced under the Kasarvadavali Traffic Sub-Division to facilitate the safe movement and placement of a large fabricated truss structure.
According to an official notification issued by the Traffic Department of Maharashtra Police, Thane City, the restrictions will remain in effect from 7 am to 1 pm on Saturday. The traffic curbs are being implemented to ensure the smooth execution of the FOB installation and to prevent congestion on one of Thane’s most heavily used arterial roads.
As per the notification, a fabricated truss measuring 48 metres in length, 3.80 metres in width, and 4 metres in height will be installed on both sides of the footpath along Ghodbunder Road. The work will be carried out by RPS–PRS Joint Venture, Mumbai, during the specified time window. Given the size of the structure and the equipment involved, traffic regulation has been deemed necessary to ensure public safety and minimise disruption.
To manage traffic flow effectively, specific diversions and stoppages have been announced, particularly for heavy vehicles approaching Ghodbunder Road from different directions.
Heavy vehicles from Mumbai and Thane will be stopped at Kapurbawdi Junction
Heavy vehicles from Mumbai and Thane heading towards Ghodbunder Road will be stopped at Y Junction and Kapurbawdi Junction. As an alternative, these vehicles are advised to proceed straight from Y Junction towards Nashik Road via Kharegaon Toll Plaza, Mankoli and Anjurphata. Alternatively, they may take a right turn at Kapurbawdi Junction and continue via Kasheli and Anjurphata.
Heavy vehicles from Mumbra and Kalwa will be halted at Kharegaon Toll Plaza
Heavy vehicles from Mumbra and Kalwa moving towards Ghodbunder Road will be halted at Kharegaon Toll Plaza. Such vehicles should use the diversion route via Kharegaon Bay Bridge, Kharegaon Toll Plaza, Mankoli and Anjurphata to reach their destinations.
Heavy vehicles from Nashik will be stopped at Mankoli Naka
Heavy vehicles approaching from Nashik will be stopped at Mankoli Naka. These vehicles are instructed to take a right turn under the Mankoli Bridge and proceed via Anjurphata.
The Traffic Department has clarified that the restrictions will apply only during the notified hours and are temporary in nature. Importantly, the curbs will not apply to emergency and essential service vehicles, including police vehicles, fire brigade services, ambulances, green corridor movements, oxygen gas carriers, and other essential service providers.
Motorists have been advised to plan their travel in advance, follow diversion signs, and cooperate with traffic personnel on duty to ensure a smooth and safe traffic flow during the execution of the FOB installation work.
