A tragic incident unfolded in the wee hours of Friday as a 26-year-old woman with her one-year-old son lost their lives by jumping from a high-rise building in Thane city. The deceased’s, identified as Priyanka Mohite, grave step stemmed from a heated quarrel between her and her husband over a family matter, local authorities were quoted as saying in a PTI report.

The family, consisting of Priyanka, her husband, and their toddler son, was residing in a residential complex situated on Ghodbunder Road, Thane. The incident unfolded on Raksha Bandhan, a festival celebrated on August 30, when Priyanka expressed her desire to visit her sister's home. However, her husband, for reasons unknown, advised against travelling with their child, igniting a heated argument between the couple.

As the discord between the husband and wife escalated, Priyanka, overwhelmed by the situation, made a fateful decision and around 1.30 am on Friday, she and her toddler plunged to their deaths from the balcony of their apartment, the PTI report stated.

The horrifying sound of their fall alerted other residents within the building. Rushing to the scene, they discovered the lifeless bodies of Priyanka and her one-year-old son lying in a pool of blood. Reportedly, the alert neighbours promptly rushed the mother and son to a nearby hospital, where medical professionals declared them dead on arrival. Subsequently, their bodies were transported to a government hospital for post-mortem examinations.

Authorities have registered a case of accidental death. However, crucial details, such as the specific number of floors in the building and the precise floor on which the victim's apartment was located, were not disclosed by the police.

Man kills self, claims police harassment

A Thane resident, nearly a month ago, had plunged to his death from his home in the Wagle Estate area days after he was caught drunk driving. The 24-year-old youth claimed that he was being harassed by traffic police but an official denied the allegation, reported PTI.

The police told news agency PTI that the deceased, identified as Manish Uttekar, was a public service aspirant and was preparing for the same and requested the cops to be lenient with him in the case. He became distraught when he learnt that the police were pursuing legal action against him and killed himself.
