Third time lucky? Sanjay Dutt likely to get another extension on parole

Days after actor Sanjay Dutt asked for a further extension on his parole, the Mumbai Police has submitted a favourable report to that end, which means that he may be out of jail for another month. Citing his wife Maanayata’s illness, Dutt had initially requested for a further one-month extension on his parole.

Dutt came out on parole on December 21, 2013. He was supposed to go back into Yerawada jail on January 21, but his parole was extended to February 21. He then asked for a further extension to be by his wife’s side.

According to rules, a convict gets a maximum of 90-days parole, of which Dutt has finished 60 days. Sources from Khar police station, where Dutt applied for the extension, said that a very strong positive report has been submitted ,based on which Dutt is most likely to get an extension for the third time.

Sources said that several pointers about Maanayata’s illness were submitted to the police last week.

After receiving a report from a panel of three doctors from JJ Hospital about the same, the authorities forwarded a favourable report to the Pune police.

Deputy Commissioner (Administration) Tukaram Pawar, who presently has the additional charge of divisional commissionerate confirmed that the Mumbai police had forwarded their report.

“I have put up Dutt’s parole extension file to Divisional Commissioner Prabhakar Deshmukh and he will take the decision in a couple of days after he returns from Delhi.”
