What kind of immediate psychological impact can a young, physically active and highly visible person experience, even if they are physically unharmed? Even if there is no serious physical injury, a frightening incident like this can leave anyone feeling shaken, unusually alert, or even emotionally numb. Sleep disturbances, intrusive memories, and anticipatory fear of it happening again are possible; being young and physically fit does not prevent feeling these emotions.

The expectation to look confident and brave can make it difficult to acknowledge fear or ask for help. Someone may carry on with work while still feeling distressed internally. People should avoid judging anyone&rsquo;s <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/opinion/article/help-for-mental-health-issues-should-be-accessible-23655759" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">emotional recovery</a> by how composed they appear in public or on screen. &nbsp; How can someone accustomed to maintaining a disciplined fitness and work routine cope up? Could returning to normal activities too quickly affect recovery? A familiar routine can be helpful during recovery. Exercise, adequate sleep, and time with family can help, but the return should be supervised, manageable, and more importantly, guided by how the person feels. Returning early is not necessarily harmful. The concern is pushing through distress just to prove that everything is normal. &nbsp; When should one seek professional support, and what therapeutic interventions could reduce the risk of longer-term psychological effects? Help should be sought if symptoms are intense, worsening or affecting sleep, work, or everyday functioning. There is no need to wait if someone is struggling. Initial support should focus on <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-experts-seek-psychological-autopsy-to-understand-students-death-beyond-exam-incident-23650994" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">psychological safety</a>, emotional regulation, and regular follow-ups without forcing them to discuss the experience. When indicated, trauma-focused CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) can help; EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is another established treatment for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). However, it&rsquo;s also important to know that not everyone exposed to trauma develops PTSD.
