After a 24-year-old newspaper vendor died on Sunday after being run over by a speeding car, his 46-year-old uncle from the same profession too succumbed to his injuries yesterday in Naupada. The accused, son of a Thane Municipal Corporation engineer, was arrested yesterday and released on bail.

M Bagga, Senior Police Inspector, Naupada police station, said, &ldquo;We had arrested the accused, who is the son of Arvind Itadkar, engineer with Thane Municipal Corporation. He claims that on Sunday morning he left his residence in Upvan in Thane to drop his father at Thane railway station and this incident occurred when he was returning.&rdquo;
The accused Shekhar Arvind Itadkar (28), a private contractor, fled the scene after the incident. &ldquo;He was not at his residence too when we went looking for him. We contacted his father and asked him to produce him in the police station. He came to the station on Monday morning at around 10 am and we arrested him. Later, he was produced in court and released on bail,&rdquo; added Bagga.
The victims identified as Sachin Pawar, the nephew, and Hemant Jadhav were distributing newspapers on their bike and were going towards Talao Pali from Ram Maruti Road.

&ldquo;The accused identified as Shekar Itadkar was driving his Hyundai Verna (MH 04 FN 3330) from Gajanan Chowk to New English School, when he hit the duo on the two wheeler,&rdquo; said a Naupada police officer.
Jadhav and Pawar, both residents of Thane, were living together as after Pawar&rsquo;s father died, he and his mother had moved in with Jadhav, his wife and two kids. Both the victims were the only earning members of the family.
Pawar had died on the spot and Jadhav, who was getting medical treatment for his head and other injuries, also died yesterday.
The Naupada police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 304 (a), 337 and 427 of the Indian Penal Code and different sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.
