A large branch of an almond tree fell on two parked cars near Kalavati Aai Temple in Rabodi No. 2, Thane West, on Thursday night, according to the Disaster Management Cell of the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/thane-civic-body-accelerates-pre-monsoon-drain-cleaning-completion-targeted-by-may-end-23626798" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Thane Municipal Corporation</a>.
The incident was reported to the civic body&rsquo;s Disaster Management Cell at around 9:28 pm on May 7. Officials said the branch collapsed onto vehicles parked along the roadside in the Rabodi area.
<h2>Emergency teams reach spot promptly</h2>
Following the alert, personnel from the Disaster Management Cell reached the site with a pickup vehicle, while the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/thane-car-catches-fire-near-jama-masjid-in-mumbra-no-casualties-23629084" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Fire Brigade</a> deployed a fire engine to assist in the operation.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported in the incident.
The damaged vehicles were identified as a Hyundai Xcent bearing registration number MH 03 DU 1737, owned by Ganesh Kadam, and a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga bearing registration number MH 04 LY 3538, owned by Bhushan Mangesh Jadhav.
Officials said both vehicles sustained minor damage after the tree branch fell on them.
<h2>Fallen branch removed after clearance operation</h2>
<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/three-children-rescued-after-lift-malfunction-in-thane-building-no-injuries-reported-23625389" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Disaster Management Cell</a> personnel and Fire Brigade staff jointly carried out the removal operation. The fallen branch was cut into sections and cleared from the vehicles and the roadside to restore normal movement in the area.
Civic officials said the situation was brought under control shortly after the teams arrived at the site.
<h2>12 electric meters damaged in fire at Thane residential building</h2>
In another incident, a fire broke out in the meter room of a residential building in Maharashtra's Thane city in the early hours of Thursday, damaging 12 electricity meters, an official said.
No person was injured in the blaze, which erupted at 1.12 am in the meter room on the ground floor of the three-storey Sarika Apartment building located in the Pachpakhadi area, Thane regional disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi said.
Smoke emanating from the meter room triggered panic among residents, prompting them to rush out of their homes as a precautionary measure. After being alerted, fire personnel rushed to the spot.
"The fire was confined to the meter box room and was extinguished by 1.35 am. The situation was brought under control swiftly, and no injuries were reported," Tadvi said.
Twelve <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/fire-breaks-out-in-meter-room-of-residential-building-in-thane-no-injuries-reported-23629273" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">electricity meters</a> were damaged in the blaze, he said.
"Residents returned to their apartments after nearly an hour once the area was declared safe by the fire brigade personnel," the official said.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, he added.
