BJP MLC Sadabhau Khot stated that the recent scuffle between supporters of two MLAs on the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan premises was a fitting response to those intoxicated with power for the past fifty years.
Supporters of NCP (SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad and BJP legislator Gopichand Padalkar clashed last Thursday, a day after their leaders had an altercation. The verbal exchange escalated into a physical fight in the lobby, as shown in social media video footage, according to news PTI.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar and leaders from various parties condemned the incident. Both Padalkar and Awhad later expressed regret for the episode in the Lower House.
Addressing a public rally in Sangli district on Tuesday evening, Khot, a former state minister, said, "A courageous youth from Atpadi-Khanapur in Sangli shattered the arrogance of those drunk on power for 50 years. He sent out a message that he can dominate Mumbai, not them," reported news agency PTI.
Although Khot did not name anyone, his remarks were apparently in praise of Padalkar and targeted at Awhad. The undivided NCP, of which Awhad was a part, was in power in the state with the Congress between 1999 and 2014.
"They (opposition) complained that we used foul language against them. I said this is the normal language we use in our place. The real cuss words are yet to be used. If we use those words, you will not be in a position to show your face to anyone," he said, reported PTI.
NCP (SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad, 60 supporters booked with legislator Rohit Pawar after latter shouts at cop
Police have registered a case against NCP (SP) MLAs Jitendra Awhad and 60 of his supporters as they were present along with his party legislator Rohit Pawar when the latter shouted at a police officer in Mumbai, officials said on Tuesday, reported news agency PTI.
This is the second case against Awhad related to the clash that occurred between his supporters and those of BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar in the Vidhan Bhavan premises last week during the assembly session.
