Two people were dead and 11 other injured when an overhead pipeline bridge collapsed on a Kalyan-bound slow train near Thane station at 10.45 am on Friday.
The bridge collapsed near the motorman R Ramachandran's cabin, killing him after four hours of rescue operation failed to save his life. A commuter Subhash Nikam also dided in the accident.
"Four tracks on central railway are blocked due to the mishap. All down line trains from Thane to Karjat and Kasara are functional and all upward bound trains are functional till Kurla. The restoration work is in full swing," Central Railway PRO A K Singh told MiD DAY.
The injured were rushed to nearby Thane Municipal Hospital.
Some commuters were injured when they jumped off the moving train after they heard a blast-like sound. 
Talking to MiD DAY, Railway commissioner Tukaram Chavan ruled out the possibility of a sabotage and said it was purely a case of accident. 
According to him three railway staffers, including the motorman, are feared to be trapped in the train. According to the commissioner, ill-fated pipeline provided water to the nearby Kopri village.

But this claim would be cleared during the course of investigation."
A senior from the Thane Civil hospital said,"One unknown middle-aged man, who suffered severe head injuries was declared dead by the hospital. Out of the 11 other injured brought to the hospital by railway officials, three suffered fractured bones and the remaining were treated for minor injuries. 
The railway authorities have informed us that the causality may go above 30 up to 40, but we are awaiting them.
