Most streets on Worli were empty all through the morning as political parties called for a bandh in the area, to mourn, as well as, protest the death of traffic constable and Worli-resident Vilas Shinde. The traffic constable succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.

Shinde, was allegedly attacked by a brother duo in Khar, while he was on duty. Most shops in Worli remained shut and heavy police bandobast was seen in most parts of the town. A few schools in the area were shut too.
While the decision was taken unanimously by all the political parties, politicians said they didn&rsquo;t get time to inform offices located in the Worli area about the bandh, as the decision was taken late yesterday night.
&ldquo;When I stepped out of my house, there was hardly anybody on the roads, except for a few police officers, who were manning the streets. Most of the shops remained shut. In my colony, most of the school-going students remained at home too,&rdquo; said advocate Vinod Singh, a resident of Worli.
According to locals in Worli, the bandh was most successful in the BDD chawl area, where Shinde used to live.
Sunil Shinde, local Shiv Sena MLA from Worli, said, &ldquo;Markets in Worli, shops and other establishments, voluntarily decided to support the bandh.&rdquo; He further added that since the bandh was declared at the last minute, they didn&rsquo;t force offices located in Worli to stop work. &ldquo;Vehicles, coming in from outside Worli were also not stopped,&rdquo; he said.
