The first was a routine spinal anaesthesia before the delivery. The other a general anaesthesia was administered to her immediately after her delivery by Caesarean section. u00a0 She was screaming in the operation theatre after the delivery, and then, a few moments later, she became quiet. Two hours later, my mother tried waking her up, and discovered that she was not conscious. It's been eight months since then, and she is still in coma," said Kukade. Dr Anirudh Joglekar, a well known anaesthetist, told MiD DAY that spinal anaesthesia only numbs the lower part of the body but the danger of a person slipping into coma like Roopali did under the influence of a general anesthesia was considerably higher. "With the advances in medicine, the chances of a person getting comatose under anaesthesia are close to nil. It did happen when chloroform and ether were used as anaesthetics," said Dr Joglekar. Investigating officer S U Patil, police inspector, Chaturshrungi police station, confirmed that the mentioned medical team has been booked under Section 338 of the IPC. Advocate Prashant Patil, who is representing the medical team, told MiD DAY that would challenge the J J Hospital Committee report, on the basis of which the FIR was filed. "How a patient reacts to a medicine is beyond the control of the doctors. It depends on the medical history of the patient," Patil said.
