The High Court premises have become a headache not only for the general public but also for the advocates, the Bar Council has claimed. u00a0 The improper working of electronic display boards, unbearable stink from the toilets and poor maintenance of court premises are the reasons, says the council. The High Court got 72 electronic displays installed in 2008 at the cost of Rs 3 crore. Installed in the court hall, corridor and outside the court, these boards are meant to inform people about cases coming up for hearing and other similar happenings inside the court. But after one year, only 18 out of the total 72 are in a working condition. "These display boards create a lot of trouble for both lawyers and the general public as they show different proceedings as compared to what is happening in the court hall," a senior bar council member said. Another grave problem pointed out by other advocates is poor ventilation at the court premises. "In the morning hours, the court is full of people leading to a lot of suffocation as only a few halls have air-conditioning facilities," an advocate said.u00a0u00a0u00a0 K T Puttegouda, president of Bar Association said, "We are not bothered about the ventilation but we are facing some serious sanitation problem. The High Court toilets are too bad and are not being maintained properly."u00a0 The High Court Bar Association has sought the help of the authorities to solve the problems. u00a0"These problems are not restricted only to the High Court but even civil and magistrate courts are facing similar problems. As there is a lack of chairs for people to sit in the lower courts, they have to stand thus blocking the way," he said. About the non-functional electronic displays, Puttegouda said, "I think operators don't have proper knowledge to operate the displays. We will get them checked and rectify them." Another advocate said, "We are frustrated with the electronic displays as they don't have any consistency leading to a lot of confusion."
